Nagra Kudelski 4.2 reel to reel field tape recorder Switzerland. With manuals. This machine has been stored for more than 20 years, and has been kept in its case complete with its removable Perspex top. Inside the battery compartment is clean, two fuses are missing. When I set it up and switched it on, it ran and sound came from the speaker, but the pinch wheel began to fall apart. (it is cork or rubber on an alloy wheel). As a crude test I ran a section of loose tape by hand past the rollers and pick-ups and this made a sound, but this the only test that I have made. I suppose it would be possible to slide some thin rubber tubing over the wheel which might work until a suitable replacement is found. It has the fused Nagra 4.2 & power supply and connecting lead. The case has a strong detachable carry/shoulder strap. There is an accessory compartment that contains a variety of leads and unused Nagra type plugs. Also there are two useful books. One is a comprehensive Nagra 4.2 service manual, which even has photographs for some items, and the other is the instruction manual. The leaflets are for accessories. The two spools are included. This has spent its life in a laboratory and has not been abused. It is a nuisance about the pinch wheel, and anyone wanting to examine it is welcome to try it out. The total weight is just over 11 kg. £

The Nagra PL-P is designed and built by the Swiss Kudelski Group. Nagra pay great attention to every detail of manufacture to bring the highest possible sonic performance and operational reliability to their products. The Nagra PL-P is built around a transformer-based MC/MM phono stage & a line Level stage with vacuum tubes operating in pure Class A Bias. The unit is 100% powered by a rechargeable battery system. The power supply uses eight rechargeable "D"-cell batteries, operating through an external current-coupled charging AC supply. DS in pristine condition, from the s, complete and fully working in all respects and including a rare plastic dust cover, modified to allow the 7 inch reels to be left in place and even run with the cover in situ. (The cover was originally of a poor design in that 7 inch reels had to be removed before it could be fitted in place.) The electronics of this particular machine have been modified to the same standard as the MkII, particularly the ever troublesome, unreliable input amplifier ICs originally used in the DS, being replaced by discrete components as in the MkII. Also twenty used-only-once 7 inch reel-to-reel tapes in good condition (of assorted brands including Ampex, EMI and Shamrock) are included in the price. (These are each selling elsewhere for between £3.50 and £12 so their inclusion is an added bonus.) 2 empty 7 inch reels are also included The users instructions and a service manual are also included. What a rare opportunity for such an excellent example of this outstanding vintage machine with all these additional goodies. I bought a replacement capstan motor from roland-vintage-audio dot com for €90 a while ago with the intention of installing it myself, but got cold feet when i realised it’s beyond my technical abilities. I believe I put a new belt on it a year ago when i got it out of storage and cleaned the heads and pinch roller (could probably do with replacing, but it’s not perished, just a tad sticky) All worked fine for about an hour as i was transferring tapes to DAW and then the capstan motor gave up as tapes were still too sticky after being unused for about 10 years. Comes with take up reel and 2 xDX-4D noise reduction units.
