Nagra PL-P Preamp

The Nagra PL-P is designed and built by the Swiss Kudelski Group. Nagra pay great attention to every detail of manufacture to bring the highest possible sonic performance and operational reliability to their products. The Nagra PL-P is built around a transformer-based MC/MM phono stage & a line Level stage with vacuum tubes operating in pure Class A Bias. The unit is 100% powered by a rechargeable battery system. The power supply uses eight rechargeable "D"-cell batteries, operating through an external current-coupled charging AC supply. Dual DC-DC converters eliminate power supply ripples and assure a clean supply of power to all active electronic stages and components. This is a very beautiful pre-amp in every sense of the word, and delivers musical enjoyment from analog and digital sources beyond comparison

tape recorder nagra in Stourbridge

Nagra Kudelski 4.2 reel to reel field tape recorder Switzerland. With manuals. This machine has been stored for more than 20 years, and has been kept in its case complete with its removable Perspex top. Inside the battery compartment is clean, two fuses are missing. When I set it up and switched it on, it ran and sound came from the speaker, but the pinch wheel began to fall apart. (it is cork or rubber on an alloy wheel). As a crude test I ran a section of loose tape by hand past the rollers and pick-ups and this made a sound, but this the only test that I have made. I suppose it would be possible to slide some thin rubber tubing over the wheel which might work until a suitable replacement is found. It has the fused Nagra 4.2 & power supply and connecting lead. The case has a strong detachable carry/shoulder strap. There is an accessory compartment that contains a variety of leads and unused Nagra type plugs. Also there are two useful books. One is a comprehensive Nagra 4.2 service manual, which even has photographs for some items, and the other is the instruction manual. The leaflets are for accessories. The two spools are included. This has spent its life in a laboratory and has not been abused. It is a nuisance about the pinch wheel, and anyone wanting to examine it is welcome to try it out. The total weight is just over 11 kg. £
