A George III mahogany tea caddy - England - circa

An 18th century mahogany wooden tea caddy manufactured during the English George III period about . The tea caddy is made from pine, oak and mahogany vineer and glued with very thick (hand-)sawed mahogany veneer. The tea caddy is decorated with sawed brass ornaments, key entrance and handle on the lid. In addition to all the original fittings, the hinges and lock are also original, unfortunately a working key is missing. The inside presumably once had partitions and/or compartments. The tea caddy rests on the four original cast brass claw feet. The entire tea caddy has a nice warm red-brown colour and patina and a nice satin shine due to the authentic wax layer! This Antique Victorian Writing Slope circa, has been constructed from walnut with brass plaque and brass escutcheon. The interior comprises of an early, tooled writing insert and removable pen tray, a flip out lidded compartment for pens, nibs etc. The inside main surface has a black original lining with a decorative boarder and corner motifs. A two-sided insert, when opened up, reveals two separate storage areas for letters and documents. Some scratches and dents, a veneer is missing in a few places, cracks to the black leather and inside lid has been reinforced with a green velvet, please see the photos, otherwise in a very good condition.
