Unfortunately I don't know much about this writing box. Having looked at similar designs it would appear to be mahogany with Brass edging in the military style. Drop side handles and side drawer for papers. Inside there is a sloping leather writing surface. There are further compartments for papers and writing implements. There are two ink pots, one has a damaged neck to bottle. Size: Length 40cm x Height 15cm x Depth 24cm. Condition: There is a crack running across the top of the lid & water damage to the varnish, it was used to stand a plant pot on. A very nice example of an antique writing box which is over 100 years old. Comes with its original key to the draw and has a shutter that goes up and down as the draw goes in and out however the attachment is damaged which will need repairing, this should be a fairly easy repair. Recently fully refurbished and restored, finely sanded and hand painted meticulously with four coats of Farrow & Ball Estate Eggshell paint colour 'Pointing' No: for a wonderful finish. Wood embellishments finely sanded and sealed with Briwax Sander Sealer (Shellac) and four coats of fine wire wool applied Briwax polish to a rich and deep sheen.
