Henry Browne & Son Ltd, Barking & London, 'Sestrel' Trade Mark, No. /B, Made in England. This compass is considered the finest of its type ever designed. The bowl is cast bronze. The optical glass prism allows the user to sight at the object and at the same time see the compass bearing in his field of view, and magnifies the card for easy use. An iridium chip beneath the card lights it for night time use. The compass is mounted on a solid teak handle with card-holder to make notations. COMES COMPLETE WITH (The compass sits in a) holder that can be fixed to bulkhead, mast, etc - as appropriate. Henry Browne & Son made only the highest quality marine navigation gear under the "Sestrel" trade mark and were purchased by Lilley & Gillie around when the marine industry was being consolidated. The Sestrel operations were sold more than once. SIRS Co., is manufacturing this compass ('Sestrel') today under the "Radiant" name (hand-held NATO coded compass ) and will sell you one for £895. Pocket Hand Bearing Compass in Hayling Island

Surplus to requirements, this is a very compact and light weight hand bearing compass for boats/trekking/orienteering etc; it is in as new condition. It has lovely clear markings every 2 degrees and is well damped. It can be kept in a pocket or hung around your neck on its lanyard. It is made by Yachting Electrical Services of Reading, and the sides are fully enclosed in soft rubber so it will survive being dropped! At £15 it is much cheaper than the Plastimo Iris 50. Sestrel Marine Gimballed Compass in Godalming

I have a Sestrel compass for sale. This is part of the inventory of my late uncle's marine chandlery. It is new/old stock and has not been fitted to a vessel. It comes in its original packaging. Sestrel went out of business because they wouldn't compromise on quality and found their products were uneconomic to make. Looking at it, it isn't hard to see why. It is beautifully made. This would look fantastic on a classic yacht. This is probably a unique opportunity. There can't be many of these knocking about in this condition any more, so a pretty unique opportunity

A Mariners Compass in a wooden box made by Sestrel Box Measures 20cm x 20cm x 14cm(H) Compass face has a diameter of 13cm In very good condition, however there is a problem with a bubble that appears in the oil during the Winter. This varies in size with the ambient temperature, (I guess as the oil expands and contracts) then disappears during the Summer. It might seem strange but I can assure you it's true! This is a used cutless bearing housing to take a 25mm diameter bearing and propellor-shaft. It is made of cast bronze, and takes a 50mm long bearing, which was rather short for our 1 metre long prop shaft, so we have changed to a 100mm long housing and bearing, which cost over £200. It will be fine for a short prop shaft, or a situation where there is not enough room for a longer bearing housing such as inside a rudder aperture on a long-keeler. The inboard end of the casting is threaded for attaching to the stern tube, and the threads are 16 TPinch, or 6TPcm, and inch diameter on a 1.5 inch diameter tube. The two anti-twist bolt holes are at 4.3 inch, 110mm, centres. A suitable new section of bearing is available at no extra charge. Asking £65 ono I also have available the bearing housing from the inboard end of the same stern tube, with the same thread. Would sell sperately for £60 ono, or together for £110 ono.
