Rare antique handmade wool Tekke Turkmen rug Circa size

An interesting fact about Turkmen rugs especially ones belonging to the Tekke Bokhara tribes is that although all have so-called Elephant foot or Gul design, but amazingly not two are the same in both shapes and colours. One reason being the natural colours used in these wonderful rugs are not uniform and therefore shades of various colours called Abrash are created in which make each pattern looked unique. This rare antique Tekke Turkmen room size carpet is from the same category. Measuring 289cm x 200cm (9’5”x6'7") and made circa , it has lustrous wool with the shades of rich and pale pink main field which is surrounded by similar geometric borders. This rug has been professionally cleaned and washed with both ends secured and is ready to furnish your home. Definition of brash: By definition, the variable change in naturally dyed wool colour that occurs in Oriental rugs during production is called Abrash. Read More

Antique AFSHAR, nomadic rug frommid-west Persia, around

This pattern is characteristic of the Afshar nomads living near Kerman. Beautiful, used condition, worn through to the weft threads in places. Soft brick red and fresh light blue. With four corner ornaments and a central, step-shaped medallion with indigo blue. Indigo is a plant.Natural, plant-based dyes. The vases with flowers at the top and bottom are characteristic of these carpets. The dark brown coloured, wool pile is very short, almost worn out, because of the iron chloride that is naturally present in the plant-based dye. This rug is approx. 100 years old, which is why it features the characteristic short pile in the dark brown parts.A good sign for the connoisseurs. Please see photo 6. AUTHENTIC NOMADIC BALUCH/ERSARI HATCHLU 115x190cm circa

AUTHENTIC NOMADIC BALUCH/ERSARI HATCHLU 115x190cm circa

Click here to view this lot This is an authentic Beluch/Ersari Hatchlu (tent door rug) featuring a multiple mihrab design. This unique rug consists of a very unusual pattern consisting of 6 Melas-like mihrabs or perhaps domed yurts with Ersari’s trade mark, the ram’s horns.Typically, Ersaris display 4 such motifs (mihrab/yurt) representing the four gates to paradise; or occasionally two on smaller prayer rugs. This Hatchlu rug was designed likely for a larger abode and therefore it might have required more yurts to fill the large rich maroon field. As such, itresembles an image of a nomadic village. This interesting anthropological artifact was used in harsh weather conditions and withered many an arduous journey; while lustrous and still quite beautiful, it shows some signs of wear ‘n tear – missing pile, etc. It was saved from utter neglect and professionally cleaned. Origin: Iran/AfghanistanDesign/ Hatchlu (Prayer Rug)Age: +/- 45 Years Click here to visit Catawiki Read More
