From various tribes who have been involved with carpet making in Turkmenistan over the past two centuries, the name of Tekke tribes stands out. For this very reason, it is always a great joy to source a good quality antique Tekke rug. This pink Tekke room size carpet is belonging to the early part of the 20th century and measuring 320 x 220cm (10'5"x7'2"). Like other Turkmen rugs, its design based on rows of Octagonal or Gul shaped motifs each decorated with geometric panels in the antique pink main field and enclosed with many interlinked geometrical inner and outer borders in similarly subdued red and pink colours in almost immaculate condition. An interesting fact about Turkmen rugs especially ones belonging to the Tekke Bokhara tribes is that although all have so-called Elephant foot or Gul design, but amazingly not two are the same in both shapes and colours. One reason being the natural colours used in these wonderful rugs are not uniform and therefore shades of various colours called Abrash are created in which make each pattern looked unique.
