Old Sepik Canoe prow with a great mysterious cut-out head. Canoes are the primary mode of travel for the villagers in the Sepik River area, because there are so few roads exist. Once the canoe reached the point where it can no longer be repaired, or if the owner dies, they cut off the bow at pretty important canoes. The condition of this prow is good, the beak has a split as pictured on the last photo into the lengt due tribal use.This item was used every day for many decades in the Sepik river.The item will be carefully packed and shipped registered and insured. Clay pots are quite rare in old collections, because they are very fragile. This piece originally comes from the collection of a long-deceased Berlin colonial official, whose grandchildren made it available to the art market, and it is happily awaiting a new owner, who will make sure that is does not break in the next 100 years... An analysis of class development in Papua New Guinea

An analysis of class development in Papua New Guinea: This essay will outline the process of class formation within Papua New Guinea (PNG) and show that, although its developments are unique to the region, they are in line with the general capitalist trend of class development. This will be done by outlining a general definition of class in relation to Marxist ideology and then applying this viewpoint to the historical development of PNG in relation to capitalism and class formation. It will show the major influence that the middle class had in the promotion of class identity, particularly normalising class differences. The essay ends with a reflection on middle class values in PNG and how they influence, but are nevertheless, part of the adaptive nature of capitalism. It is concluded that from a Marxist perspective, understanding class formation in PNG is tantamount to understanding class theory in general.
