He was given the nickname “Re galantuomo” for not having repealed Albertine statute, a name by which he is still remembered today. Assisted by Prime Minister Camillo Benso, count of Cavour, he completed the national Risorgimento and the process of Italian unification. For these events he is referred to as the "father of the land". To him is dedicated the Vittoriano national monument, located in Rome, in piazza Venezia. Read More
