In terms of semi-pro equipment, the R8 is perhaps the most advanced 8-Track ever made. It's also one of the easiest to use and best sounding. This was the last 8-Track Fostex made before switching to digital in the late 's, and is packed with the kind of features usually reserved for professional machines. First among these is the ability to sync it with your DAW, and have the sound of analogue tape with the convenience of digital recording. I've had half a dozen of them over the years, and always regretted letting them go. Very good mic amps and limiters for a great location recorder - very readable even in bright sunlight display - this comes with my evolution UC33 midi controller (fader controller) and petrol bag which cost £200. The UC33 connects via r88 USB and is all ready set up to control the R88, it also gets power from the USB so very neat for drama mixing, also included is a mains PSU for the R88. The last four photos are stock ones, a real bargain, this recorder is £ new at pink noise. I have only used this for 2 TV series "All About The Mckenzies" about 10 commercials and three short films. Its very easy to use on set and the sound quality is as good as my 633. One of the great things is 8 mic amps on XLRS and 8 XLR outputs. The FD8 offers multitrack recording that can integrate with almost any setup, plus the means to take your work beyond its modest limits. The FD8 makes the most of having a digital mind.
