Bronze incense burner – Japan – late 19th century

Click here to view this lot Beautiful large Japanese bronze incense burner from the 19th century. The incense burner consist of a bowl and a cover. The bowl has three curled legs, depicting mythological creatures. The rim of the bowl is decorated with a band of cloisonné, in various colours, with ruyi and branch patterns. There are holes in the cover, which let the smoke pass through, and it has a depiction of a Japanese Shi Shi at the top. A late 19th century Birdseye maple jewellery box in lovely condition. A working lock and key is fitted with matching baize to the tray and base. Inside covering of the box matches the lift out tray. There is a split to the veneer and a small amount of edging missing as indicated in the photos. Size = 10" x 7.5" x 4". Would make a lovely Graduation or Birthday present.
