Antique 19thC Sandstone Pedestal & Sundial. £ or offers. Sandstone not a modern reproduction.

An Antique Sandstone Sundial & Pedestal as shown. Full provenance as it has been in same family for 60 years and some previous history. We inherited it with the house in and the previous owner said that apparently it originally came from the Chateau Thierry region of France from his brother who was there in 's. This is a genuine old sandstone garden ornament and not a modern composite reproduction. Original patina with age related marks (see photos) in overall excellent condition. Pedestal base had original dial (apparently pewter/lead) which was removed in the 's and donated to the war effort for metal. A concrete square was added on the top in the 50's and eventually a brass London Type Dial with fixed gnomon (then new) fitted in the late 70's. Sympathetically cleaned with just warm soapy water & soft brush approx. every 5-6 years. A nice unique piece of garden architectural furniture with documented written & photographic history. 25" tall pedestal & 10" x 13" at top whilst 10" x 12" at base. Dial is 5" across the flats. Antique Stone Trough

Create a wonderful planter for your garden with this old granite trough. Originally used by farmers as a feed trough for their livestock, this trough is mm long x 590 mm wide x 330 mm high, with an internal planting depth of 180 mm. And as the farmers needed to wash out the trough from time to time, they made it with a small 20 mm hole near the base of the feeding level. This is ideal as, when the trough is now used as a planter, this hole naturally lets water out slowly from the soil, thus giving you more control of the moisture level in the soil.
