Victorian dome top wood/brass bound travel trunk/chest, storage

This is a lovely old Victorian travel trunk. It has a dome or barrel shape top and is bound with wood and brass. The wood has a brown leather covering. The trunk is in good solid vintage condition and would make a great storage chest. The inside has the original striped paper lining, which is quite tatty and could be replaced. The lid needs an adjustment as it doesn't quite fit into the locks, although this doesn't stop it from closing. 2 castors are missing but, as the remaining 2 disappear into the base when on the floor it still stands on the level. it measures 60 cm wide by 48 cm high, and weighs 10 kilos. Antique old brass bound sea chest box trunk with false base compartment.

Please study all photographs carefully as these also form part of the description. Beautiful Victorian Pine Chest / Trunk with brass drop handles. Brass lock escutcheon, and original solid brass quality drop handles. It has had some renovation (mainly a small wood insert in one edge) in the past, as is to be expected because of its age, but it is in a nice polished condition.  It is brass bound, and is made of Brazilian mahogany - very thick and heavy.    It has a false panel in the internal base for smuggling, when it was originally a sea chest, I believe.   I have owned it for 50 years, but I no longer have the room for it.   There is no woodworm - its too hard for the little blighters! A perfect Coffee Table ? Length 77cm Width 45cm Height 47cm It provides an ideal storage solution for papers / magazines or would look fabulous as a lamp or coffee table. A nice piece of furniture to enhance any home. As this is an old chest, the usual marks, and knocks are present commensurate with age and use. Antique Victorian Iron Bound Oak Silver Chest Trunk VERY VERY LARGE AND HEAVY Vintage This is a stunning very very large and very very heavy 19th century Victorian Solid Oak Silver Chest Trunk which makes a fabulous Storage Chest Coffee Table. Has a multitude of metal straps, two handles at each end (you certainly need them) and three locks, I do not have keys. I have sympathetically restored this VERY VERY LARGE trunk and is now clean, sturdy and ready to use. I have cleaned and highly polished with wax the exterior of the trunk. The inside has been fully cleaned and is now very clean and solid. As you can see from the large pictures the trunk has had a new floor fitted as the original one was a bit rotten. I cant emphasise enough how large and heavy this trunk is, it’s the largest trunk I have ever owned or seen. Please remember this trunk is old and shows knocks and marks and a bit of rot which you would expect from a trunk which has had a very long working life, this is all part of it’s rustic charm. A beautiful and functional piece of furniture with great character. Would suit both a period or contemporary home.
