A Dog Walks into a Nursing Home: Lessons in the Good Life

In late adolescence,Pransky was bored: she needed a job. and so Sue Halpern decided to give herself and her underoccupied Labradoodle a new leash?er,lease?on life by getting the two of them certified as a therapy-dog team. Pransky proved to be not only a terrific therapist, smart and instinctively compassionate, but an unerring moral compass as well. Free to a good home. Max (the dog in the blue collar) in

Free to a good home. Max (the dog in the blue collar) in

Max is between 7-8 years old now, we rescued him at a year old. He is a very affectionate and loyal dog. Very other dog friendly tends to be submissive with other dogs but sociable always excited to meet new friends. It has been a difficult decision to make but we feel like we can no longer give Max the home he deserves. He would not be suitable for families who have young children as he nips fingers and is nervous around young kids, shaking and unsettled. Children 10 years plus maybe all right. He is full of energy!! and loves his walks. As he is a working breed if he gets a scent he follows it and has been known to bring back small rodents and birds. He will drop them on command, and it it is very rare, but I would like you to know everything. Not long after we adopted him he had a limp and we had surgery performed on his right knee cap, since he has been fine, and is in good health. He is up to date with flea and wormer, but does need immunisations done. He would make a great companion and really is a lovely dog. Are you the right home for him? Please text, phone or email. If I don't answer leave a message I'll get back to you

Good Dog: The Story of Orson, Who Changed My Life

Good Dog: The Story of Orson, Who Changed My Life

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Katz, Jon, PUBLISHER: Ebury, "People who love dogs often talk about a 'lifetime' dog. I'd heard the phrase a dozen times before I came to recognize its significance. Lifetime dogs are dogs we love in especially powerful, sometimes inexplicable ways."-Jon Katz In this gripping and deeply touching book, bestselling author Jon Katz tells the story of his lifetime dog, Orson: a beautiful border collie-intense, smart, crazy, and unforgettable. From the moment Katz and Orson meet, when the dog springs from his traveling crate at Newark airport and panics the baggage claim area, their relationship is deep, stormy, and loving. At two years old, Katz's new companion is a great herder of school buses, a scholar of refrigerators, but a dud at herding sheep. Everything Katz attempts- obedience training, herding instruction, a new name, acupuncture, herb and alternative therapies-helps a little but not enough, and not for long. "Like all border collies and many dogs," Katz writes, "he needed work. I didn't realize for some time I was the work Orson would find." While Katz is trying to help his dog, Orson is helping him, shepherding him toward a new life on a two-hundred-year-old hillside farm in upstate New York. There, aided by good neighbors and a tolerant wife, hip-deep in sheep, chickens, donkeys, and more dogs, the man and his canine companion explore meadows, woods, and even stars, wade through snow, bask by a roaring wood stove, and struggle to keep faith with each other. There, with deep love, each embraces his unfolding destiny. "A Good Dog" is a book to savor. Just as Orson was the author's lifetime dog, his story is a lifetime treasure-poignant, timeless, and powerful. "From the Hardcover edition."

The Human Factor in Nursing Home Care

The Human Factor in Nursing Home Care

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Oliver, David B. / Tureman, Sally, PUBLISHER: Routledge, In an attempt to challenge the prevailing attitudes and images of nursing homes in America, the authors have written a touching book about the people and the relationships that are a part of nursing home care. Their extensive study of and experience with nursing home residents and caregivers reveal that our negative and often painful thoughts about nursing homes are not always well-founded. The authors effectively use monologue and dialogue to take the reader into the world of the nursing home to observe the work of the nursing home staffs, from administrators to housekeepers, as they become surrogate families and friends of the patients. Most moving are the thoughts and words of the residents themselves, especially as they describe their initial horror and anger at being in the nursing home, and their feelings of abandonment and loss of self-esteem. Valuable for both undergraduate and graduate courses in nursing, social work, psychology, death and dying, pastoral care and counseling, this comprehensive volume is useful as a primary or supplementary text.BACKCOVER COPY In an attempt to challenge the prevailing attitudes and images of nursing homes in America, David Oliver and Sally Tureman have written a touching book about the people and the relationships that are a part of nursing home care.
