Beautiful marble sculpture of Saint Anthony of Padua with book with the child Christ and a lily branch.Southern Europe, 19th century.Size: 25 x 10 x 5.5 cm. Weight: grams.In reasonable condition, slightly damaged to hair, lily branch and mantle, presumably, two ornaments (halo?) once on the head of Antonius and Christ.Antonius is the patron of Padua, Lisbon, Paderborn and Hildesheim; lost objects, a known rhyme goes as follows: "St. Anthony, my best friend, make that I find my... â; of the Franciscans; of lovers, spouses and marriage partners; of women and children; of the poor; of the travellers; of bakers (Antonius bread); of mountain people; for helpers in distress; the horse and donkey. His intercession is invoked for a prosperous childbirth, against infertility, fever, and livestock diseases; against shipwreck, war misery and against the plague.
