Full page, consisting of four joined strips drawn for the Handelsblad, published in book form later that year as the fifth full comic album of Piet Pienter and Bert Bibber with the familiar alternating red and blue pages. The page shows a clash between the seedy figures of the underworld, looking for the fabulous diamond treasure of the mythical King Salami and our heroes. Also note the way Pom shows the darkness by meticulously drawing stripes/lines as background. The item is larger than most comic art: it is drawn in Indian ink on brilliant white photo paper, that Pom received from an uncle at Agfa - paper which allowed inking mistakes to be scratched away without leaving a trace. As such the illustration is in perfect condition, without Tippex, corrections, discoloration or damage. Henk Sprenger (January 3rd, - December 29th, ) is, together with Toonder, Kresse and Dulieu, Kuhn and Piet Wijn, one of the most famous Dutch (classic) comic artists. In the second world war, Sprenger was active at Marten Toonder Studios. Sprenger drew, inked, wrote and devised the plots of all his stories by himself. His most famous work is the balloon comic 'Kick Wilstra'. In the first volume of “Kick Wilstra”, the football hero, was published, whose name was a combination of the names of the famous football players Kick Smit, Faas Wilkes and Abe Lenstra. “Kick Wilstra” appeared in the Ketelbinkie Krant and in Robs Vrienden and various newspapers. The newspaper comics of 'Kick Wilstra' were finally published in 18 oblong volumes.Sprenger made this strip for volume 10, "Kick Wilstra als gladiator", published in book form in . Beautifully illustrated in Sprenger’s famous style, just look at those beautiful ink lines and shading. See photos 2 and 3 for the final publication in volume 10, "Kick Wilstra als gladiator". The book is not included in this lot. Many celebrities, such as Johan Cruyff and Jan Mulder (see photo 5) were and are fans of Kick Wilstra.
