Who's Afraid Of Charles Darwin?: Debating Feminism And

The relationship between feminism and the biological sciences has always been particularly tense and hostile. Feminists have been inclined not to trust what scientists had to say about the sexes, with science often being pronounced a Owhite, male enterprise.O But why should feminism and the biological sciences remain at odds? And what might be gained from a reconciliation? In Who's Afraid of Charles Darwin? Griet Vandermassen shows that, rather than continuing this enmity, feminism and the biological scienc

Charles Darwin: Destroyer of Myths (Hardcover)

Charles Darwin: Destroyer of Myths (Hardcover)

Charles Darwin did not deliberately set out to be the ?destroyer of mythical beliefs,” some of which,in his early days as a young Christian,he had previously espoused. He was a modest man who liked to avoid controversy of any kind, yet paradoxically,he was to be the cause of the greatest controversy in the history of science and religion. When Darwin embarked on the HMS Beagle in late December ,bound for the southern hemisphere,he could not have imagined that the experience would

The Origin of Species - Charles Darwin - SOUGHT AFTER SIXTH EDITION!!

The Origin of Species - Charles Darwin - SOUGHT AFTER SIXTH EDITION!!

The Origin of Species - By Charles Darwin SIXTH EDITION!! - this was the FIRST edition in which he used the word evolution - this was the LAST edition published during Darwin's lifetime This edition has been climbing in value year after year Already a scientific star upon his return to England, Charles Darwin published an exciting travel memoir and important works on geology and fossils, while continuing to develop his ideas on evolution in secret. Finally appearing in , the Origin of Species was aimed at the general public rather than scientists. It was an immediate success, with the entire first printing oversubscribed and a second edition planned immediately. In total, six editions were published during Darwin’s lifetime, each with important revisions, including the first use of the term “evolution” in the sixth edition. An American edition was published in and numerous foreign translations were printed. Darwin expanded on his theories in later works, such as The Descent of Man, his first book to argue explicitly that humans were animals shaped by evolution

Feminism and Global Chineseness: The Cultural Production of

Feminism and Global Chineseness: The Cultural Production of

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Zhu, Aijun, PUBLISHER: Cambria Press, This book deconstructs the controversy of globally located Chinese women authors, including Maxine Hong Kingston (America), Wei Hui (Mainland China), Li Ang (Taiwan), and Li Bihua (Hong Kong). It vividly shows how these authors are trapped in a dilemma between feminism, nationalism, and neocolonialism complicated by the powerful influences of global popular culture. This book not only engages in the much debated major issues such as gender, nation, narration and globalization, but more profoundly, it also points out the cultural and political significance of literary and cultural criticism, a much neglected area of research. The author's detailed examination of Chinese nationalism from the perspectives of gender and globalization shows her sharp awareness of the changing geopolitical mapping of Chineseness. Critics of Chinese literature and culture will benefit from this work in this era of social and political changes. "The book is an ambitious, original, and provocative study of modern and contemporary Chinese literature and culture. this book brings a fresh approach to the developing field of Chinese feminist studies and to the field of Chinese literary criticism." - Professor Jianmei Liu, University of Maryland, College Park

Charles Darwin - Die Biografie

Charles Darwin - Die Biografie

Women and the Reinvention of the Political: Feminism in

This is the first in-depth study of the feminist movement that swept Italy during the long s (),and one of the first to use a combination of oral history interviews and newly-released archive sources to analyze the origins, themes, practices and impacts of second-wave feminism. While detailing the local and national contexts in which the movement operated,it sees this movement as transnationally connected.
