Large church image of 'Mary of Lourdes' - Kempen, Antwerp,
Beautiful large Mary statue, depicting Mary of Lourdes. A statue with a highly serene and devout look. Mary wears a robe in blue and white, with accents in gold, the colours of Mary. Her aureole has the text: ik ben de onbevlekte ontvangenis (I am the Immaculate Conception) This means that Mary is free from the original sin. For years, this statue stood in the Chapel of a Nuns monastery in Antwerp Kempen, nearly forgotten in recent years. The statue is in neat condition, but wears traces of time, which give it a beautiful melancholy look. Mary of Lourdes is still very loved in Antwerp Kempen and is still praised in many places, in the past many villages and monasteries built their own Lourdes cave. A lot of people went, and are still going, to Lourdes on a pilgrimage. May is traditionally still the month of Mary. The statue is made of plaster, which is common for that time. Afterwards it was painted with many details. Height approx. 87cm Pick up preferred in the Baarle Hertog/Nassau region, due to its vulnerability and its weight. Read More
