Chestnut wood polychrome sculpture - Saint Mary the Virgin -
Ancient chestnut wood polychrome sculpture. 19th-century Spanish school sculpture, admirably crafted by an unknown sculptor. Depicting Saint Mary the Virgin standing over a crescent moon. The Virgin wears a long dress covering her from shoulders down to feet, with flaps and scrolls in the upper red drapery, with a central decoration engraved, wide sleeves, a blue floor-length veil over her head and joined hands. The stiffness of the body posture makes it look like a popular craftwork. Good condition, with a piece of wood missing on the octagonal base, some very small losses to polychromy and wear from ageing. Dimensions: H. 39 cm. Read More
