Handmade oriental carpet: Old Kazak, 267 x 167 cm, circa

Welcome to Passion d'Orient: The term Kazakh is commonly used for categorising a heterogeneous group of carpets coming from various areas of the Caucasus. The 19th century Kazakhs were entirely knotted in wool with a long and shiny pile, and large colourful geometric-type designs, varying according to the production area. During the 20th century, the beauty of both the colours and the original inventive designs were rediscovered; they are still made from memory by women who have transmitted this great tradition from mother to daughter over the centuries. Wonderful oriental rug Tabriz 255 x 167 cm, circa

Wonderful oriental rug Tabriz 255 x 167 cm, circa

Tabriz is one of the main rug-producing cities in Iran. It is located at meters above sea level in the north-western part of the country at the foot of the Sahan Mountains, not far from the Turkish border and 150 km from the border with Azerbaijan. Rug production in this city has an ancient tradition, furthermore thanks to the influences deriving from its geographic position, Tabriz rugs have a great variety of decorations. Even the quality ranges from the most coarsely knotted to masterpieces that reach the peaks of craftsmanship. The fineness of the knotting is measured in radj: one radj is a unit of length equal to roughly 7 cm. One radj may contain from 25 to 70 knots; the measuring scale is a square with each side equal to one radj. Therefore, a 25 radj Tabriz rug will have approximately knots per square, while a 70 radj Tabriz will have knots per square meter. These numbers clearly explain the huge quality differences between these two types.Manufacture: Hand-knotted Size: 255 x 167 cm Approximate thickness: 8-10 mm Age: circa Origin: Roumania. Pile: Wool Warp: Cotton Knot density: approx. knots/m2. Notes: 100% natural colours – in good conditionDelivered with a certificate of authenticity. Remarkable handmade Oriental rug: Antique Sarough 385 x 290

Welcome to Passion d'Orient:The village of Sarouk is located in the central region of Iran, about 40 km north of the city of Sultanabad. The carpet production in this region increased significantly towards the end of the 19th century, due to the considerable export demand, which resulted, at that time, in a flourishing business activity for the Ziegler company, whose headquarters were in the neighbouring city of Sultanabad. The sturdiness of the structure, the elegance of the design and the harmony of the colours, chosen from among the softest and most stylish, meant that, in the 20th century, Sarouk carpets were one of the carpets most exported to the West, and especially to the United States. The knots used to make them are asymmetrical which allows for a higher density.Manufacture: Hand-knotted Size: 385 x 290 cm Approximate thickness: 8 mm Age: around Origin: Iran.Pile: Wool.Warp: CottonKnotting density: about knots/m² Notes: 100% natural colours - in good condition - one-year warranty. With certificate of authenticity – One-year warranty.Fast and careful shipping via BPOST or GLS/UPS (secure with tracking).!!!!!! The name 'Tibetan rugs' describes today, on the one hand, hand-knotted carpets from Tibet, the highest region in the world, and on the other hand, also the carpets woven by exiled Tibetan people located in Nepal. Regarding patterns, we can see a great resemblance to Chinese ones. These rugs are often small given that they were primarily meant for houses and temples. The current rug production from Nepal consists mostly of rugs with modern and western patterns in pastel tones. These rugs are labelled 'Tibetan' to distinguish them from the rest of the country's production.
