  Vintage Garden Pump

Old style garden pump for the drawing up of water from a well.  This pump is made of cast iron and was once attached to the top of a wooden barrel - the remains of which is still visible around the fixing collar at the base of the pump and the short length of plastic pipe attached to the pump seems to confirm this.  This pump and others like it were imported from the East in the 's and 80's and sold in garden centres - you can still find them today.  They are still made in places like India or Malaysia in the identical way that they were in this country so in that respect they are not 'reproduction' they are original pumps still being made today!  I've tried it for drawing water and it's not brilliant but I am almost certain that it would take very little to actually make it function as it should: it hasn't had a lot of wear and it's robustly made and ther's little to go wrong with it.  (I have used a genuine, fully working pump in my garden for many years so know a little bit about these things!  Glad to give advice on this if required)  Buyer collects I suppose although the pump itself measures 24" high and wide with the handle at rest.
