VINTAGE WEM 50 Watt Amp Head

WEM Monitor Reverb Amplifier. This is a working 50 watt unit and is fitted with a pair of desirable MULLARD EL34 output valves. This unit sounds really sweet and has a couple of interesting features. Channel 1 has a 3 band EQ. Each band working from max right down to zero rather than the more conventional plus / minus. This means that if you turn all three bands to zero there is no output from that channel. It provides a fantastic range of tone and I believe that is what the term "Mixing Amplifier" refers to on the front panel. Channel 2 has a standard 2 band EQ just like the famous Dominator series. There is a standby switch which in reality is a signal mute rather than the more conventional HT switch as found on Marshalls etc. Volume and tone pots all work without crackles. Some points to note: • The old Bulgin mains socket has been replaced with a modern IEC mains socket. • There is a MIC level output for DI on the back panel. This was originally a jack socket but was replaced with an XLR at some point in the past. • The reverb spring unit is missing, but the send and return phono leads are still in place, so a replacement could be fitted easily if required. • The cosmetics show its age but it is still fairly presentable. VINTAGE MARSHALL JMP 50 LEAD AMP HEAD – – HANDWIRED – MULLARD VALVES - COLLECTERS GRADE

Marshall JMP Stock code: Lead Serial number E Genuine Vintage Marshall Up for sale here is my Marshall JMP 50 watt lead head. This is in collectors /museum grade condition and is as close to mint as you will find a 44 year old amp. Everything works and it sounds and looks fantastic. The photos do the best job of showing this and as you can see the tolex covering, aluminium front and rear panels and case are unmarked, just as they left the factory. It has the original Drake transformers and a complete set of Mullard valves which I suspect are the originals. was the last year of the point to point handwired amps and this one still has the original bulgin socket on the back. I’ve owned this amp for 9 years, it’s had home use only but I’ve had it serviced several times during that time to keep it in top condition. It is in very original condition but the few components that have been replaced are in the last photo. When I bought it the standby toggle switch, which would have been the ‘black bat’ plastic type like the On/Off switch, had been replaced with a vintage re-issue metal toggle switch from Marshall. I had this replaced with a second hand original but if you look closely the lock washer is slightly different to the one on the On/Off switch. This is cosmetic and obviously doesn’t affect the operation of the amp but in the interests of being completely open and honest I’m pointing it out and if the buyer wants a matching lock washer for the On/Off switch I can get one. I’ve just had it checked over by my tech last week, to make sure it’s in top condition to sell, and he replaced one of the power valves with an identical used period Mullard EL34. I will supply the original with the sale. It runs quietly, just sounds the business and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face! It comes with its original Marshall slip cover and bulgin power lead which has been fitted with a modern sealed plug for safety. This is a real find for a serious collector or player, there can’t be many Marshalls from this era in this condition and they rarely come up for sale. I’m selling because I’m in the process of downsizing my collection of vintage amps and guitars as I retired last year and my wife and I are looking to move to a smaller house. This is a genuine and reluctant sale and I’m sure that whoever buys it will be delighted with it. Note: the 4x12 cab shown in some of the photos is not included but is for sale so please ask. Local pick up is welcome and always the best option if you live close enough or I can send it fully insured and tracked with UPS 48 hour service in a genuine Marshall shipping box for £75.
