A lovely Victorian fireplace which is from my house. The surround is painted slate and the insert and grate are cast iron. The surround is approx.: 51inches high and the slate mantle is approx.: 53inches wide. It comes with a slate back plate as seen in photos. There has been some repair to one side piece and also as seen in photo a little bit missing from back of other side piece but when against the wall you do not notice. I have a Victorian style marble mantlepiece with a beautiful cast iron fireplace. Bad news - the marble fireplace is broken in parts but can be mended. I think all the pieces are there but I keep finding new bits of it every day. Bad news - the Victorian fireplace has got some superficial rust on it so needs a good scrub and a tin of black plate and will be as good as before. The marble surround features a traditional design from the period, with attractive decorative corbels supporting a bevelled mantelpiece shelf. I have included a picture of what the mantlepiece and fireplace would have looked like originally and could look like again with a bit of tlc. Reproduction Victorian cast iron and tile fireplace and surround, including mantelpiece and brass fender. 55inches wide across the top of the mantel and 44 inches high from hearth to top of mantel. Inside the wooden rebate is 3 feet by 3 feet. Suitable for gas fire or just ornamental. Could be used for open fire, but I can’t guarantee as I don’t know the original spec. The wooden mantle piece is a bit marked on top, as in picture, but would probably sand clean. The cast iron bits need a good clean. No cracks in the tiles. The hearth is black marble, but probably wont survive being taken out intact. The fender is 54 inches by 15 inches. It expands to 65 inches. I believe this to be a genuine Victorian style fireplace. When we bought this property this was the fireplace installed. We are now doing up this room and feel that this fireplace is the wrong type for the large room. Hence this sale. Brass surround included in the sale as it complements the tiled hearth beautifully. The hearth will be of no use as it is black tiles on cement, so impossible to take out in one piece. The tiles on the fireplace have small hairline cracks which are typical for this type of fireplace. This suggests that it is very old. The fireplace has been refurbished and is in mint condition. The different colouring on the tiles is due to the light coming in from the right hand window. Hence, the brightness on the left hand tiles. There is no grate but this item can be easily enough found at various suppliers. We have never had a fire on in this fireplace. Mantelpiece: = 47.5ins x 7ins. Stunning Victorian cast iron fireplace with original wooden surround. Height of the iron insert is 36 inches and it's 22 inches wide. Height of the original wooden surround mantle is 44 inches. The width is 34 inches and the width of the top mantle shelf is 41 inches. It came from an old Victorian cottage here in Cornwall and will clean up to be a lovely feature.
