This durable cultivar is known for its longevity in the garden and having unusually coloured flowers that are larger than other Penstemon hybrids. It is an evergreen perennial or sub-shrub to 4 feet tall with dark stems heavily clothed with narrow lanceolata dark green leaves. Tolerates and even thrives in poor soils and alkaline conditions but requires relatively good drainage.The flowers attract butterflies into the garden. Mexican Physalis -Tomatillo plants

The "Physalis fruit" often found in supermarkets is very similar to the Chinese lantern garden plant, both plants have the actual fruit inside a lantern shaped shell. The Tomatillo fruit shell starts off green and as it dries and the inner fruit ripens the shell turns to a straw colour. Inside the shell a small tomato-like fruit develops, starting off green and sour, changing to yellow with a very pleasant citrus flavour. These plants are easy to grow, just the same as tomatoes they can be grown inside, a greenhouse, or outside after the last frost. The largest plant I have for sale has been grown outside since mid- May, is over 5 foot tall and still flowering and setting fruit. This could continue for 2 to 3 more months with sufficient warmth. Feeding is as for tomatoes, very easy to look after. I have a few more, younger and smaller plants, also still in flower. I would recommend anyone interested check on one of the main horticultural sites, or on the internet for more information.
