I discovered this tape machine during a recent house move having long since forgotten about it! If my recollection is correct it was around that I got it and it has not been used for quite some time now hence being stored away in the loft. It does appear to work but some of the controls seem really stiff and the cable to the microphone is worn quite a lot so it's safe to say it would suit someone that is happy restoring old HI Fi? It also needs a good clean up generally and the rear sliding compartment door which houses the mains lead has come away. DS in pristine condition, from the s, complete and fully working in all respects and including a rare plastic dust cover, modified to allow the 7 inch reels to be left in place and even run with the cover in situ. (The cover was originally of a poor design in that 7 inch reels had to be removed before it could be fitted in place.) The electronics of this particular machine have been modified to the same standard as the MkII, particularly the ever troublesome, unreliable input amplifier ICs originally used in the DS, being replaced by discrete components as in the MkII. Also twenty used-only-once 7 inch reel-to-reel tapes in good condition (of assorted brands including Ampex, EMI and Shamrock) are included in the price. (These are each selling elsewhere for between £3.50 and £12 so their inclusion is an added bonus.) 2 empty 7 inch reels are also included The users instructions and a service manual are also included. What a rare opportunity for such an excellent example of this outstanding vintage machine with all these additional goodies. I have owned and looked after this s tape deck from new. It is in beautiful condition cosmetically (see pictures) with all parts perfectly intact except for a broken hinge on the dust cover. I also have the original instruction booklet plus a comprehensive service manual, both in excellent condition. It is a 3 speed 4 track stereo reel-reel recorder, silent in operation with crystal clear sound (frequency response up to Hz) and separate record and playback heads enabling sound on sound /echo and tape monitoring, and with excellent easy to use controls. But after fitting a genuine brand new playback tape head a while ago I think that I must have soldered the wires back incorrectly, so that needs looking at. Also the fast forward button seems to have stuck. I am now hard of hearing and my eyesight is not what it was so I cannot be bothered to try and fix it and it is therefore reluctantly sold for spares or repair, but when working is an excellent machine. Fostex R8 Analogue Reel to Reel 8 Track Recorder

In terms of semi-pro equipment, the R8 is perhaps the most advanced 8-Track ever made. It's also one of the easiest to use and best sounding. This was the last 8-Track Fostex made before switching to digital in the late 's, and is packed with the kind of features usually reserved for professional machines. First among these is the ability to sync it with your DAW, and have the sound of analogue tape with the convenience of digital recording. I've had half a dozen of them over the years, and always regretted letting them go. The heads are in very good nick too (see photos). I've cleaned them and demagnetised them. Transport is all working fine.
