A Fine 19th Century French Bronze Bust of Napoleon Bonaparte by Renzo Colombo
Sold in excellent condition, a 19th Century French Bust of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, in greatcoat and hat, looking to the right, with imperial eagle with outstretched wings below, and brass plaque inscribed "Napoleon 1er ", par Colombo, also signed "R Colombo" and dated on right shoulder, with seal "Bronze garanti au titre, Paris " on left shoulder, writing "Pinedo Bronzier Paris" on the left hand side at the rear, on mottled red marble shaped base. Height of bronze: 50 cm, width 29 cm. Very heavy: 19.9 Kg (3 stone, 3 lbs). The bronze bust of Napoleon sits on a hardwood pedestal table which is also included in the sale price. This table has a scalloped circular top inset with rose marble,pierced and carved shaped legs, carved with animal masks and flowers, joined by stretchers. Height cm, diameter cm. The Italian Artist Renzo Colombo (), studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Art. After a period of working in Rome he returned to his home town of Gallarate where he executed busts, medals and funerary monuments, producing his Tasso Morente in , partially inspired by the Napoleon by Vicenza Vela. Having worked in Genoa and Marsiglia, he was appointed artistic director of the Musee Grevin in Paris in and began exhibiting at the Salon. His bust of Napoleon was presented there in .
