Roose Dean and Parish PriestAfter his death, a family member took care of it for several years and now this beautiful ornament deserves a nice place in a new living room.This ornament was probably part of a pulpit.It can also be mounted on e.g. a wall.Beautifully carved from one solid block of oak.In the middle of the ornament there is a beautiful angel with wings, a beautiful face with long hair.The very finely made feathers in the wings are striking.Patina of age makes the ornament even more beautiful.Its length is 165 cm, height 50 cm, thickness 15 cm and its weight is 12.5 kg.Because of its weight and size, it is recommended to collect the ornament in Izegem (Belgium). The sculpture was crafted archaeologically, the preparation with recesses of the left shoulder is beautiful together with the semi-ancient tears. However, overall the artefact is in a fairly good state of preservation, in its original patina, crafted in a fine Italian statuary, held up by an original metal linchpin, on a Levanto red base. Russian icon from the 18th century, tempera on wood. Icon of Christ Pantocrator. Nice representation of Christ Pantocrator, master and judge (“panto” means able of doing everything and “kratos”, strong and powerful), standing with great dignity, penetrating with his gaze the heart of whoever stands in front of him and revealing the truth written in the book that only he can open. It may seem like a terrible image, but his kind and friendly gesture of the hand invites us to get closer and listen. Painted with an open book with a quote from the Gospel. Christ is depicted wearing a red chiton (tunic-shaped robe) and a light blue himation (mantle). The red colour symbolises the Saviour’s human and earthly nature, the light blue stands for his heavenly and divine nature. Dimensions: 44 cm x 42 cm. Read more
