It’s a cosy choice for urban babies. Silver Cross has more than 130 years experience in the British buggy industry. The Silver Cross Linear Freeway is one of its “Pram Systems” – that is, it’s a pram that transforms into pushchair when your baby is old enough, and it can be turned into the Silver Cross Linear Freeway Travel System by purchasing the Silver Cross Venture Plus Group 0 car seat. “Linear” refers to the type of buggy chassis. The Linear chassis is aimed at urban parents, has lockable swivel wheels and is self-standing once folded. It’s lighter in weight and more compact than the Silver Cross Classic chassis, which features the vintage “X” frame and big spoke wheels. The Silver Cross Linear Freeway has a 4-position recline and a 4-point locking mechanism. As a pushchair, it can be forward or rear facing, and there’s a very cosy footmuff, too. What we love Setting up the Silver Cross Linear Freeway was simple, and for the first outing with my 14-week-old Rosie, I flicked out the chassis and popped on the pram with ease. Snug in her fleecy lined carrycot, Rosie feel asleep in minutes. One of the top features of the Silver Cross Linear Freeway Travel System has to be its cosiness, with the carrycot lining being as soft as silk. The Silver Cross Linear Freeway manoeuvres fairly easily. The shopping basket is large enough to stow all of our treats, without me having to hang things off the handle. It feels lovely to push, too. It’s incredibly comfy and has a really nice feeling about it – you can walk for miles knowing you and your baby will be happy. What to watch out for On hard ground, the wheels are lovely and smooth. Head off-road, and their performance isn’t as great. Once you change the pram into a buggy, the wheels nearly have a mind of their own. I was bumping into things. That said, I’m certainly not the best buggy driver around - I still manage to hit the walls when coming through my own front door! I had trouble getting the carrycot off the chassis. It’s super easy to slot in, but once that carrycot’s on, I can’t move it. My husband can remove it without any hassles, but if you’re short and don’t have much upper body strength, it’s a bit difficult. The weight is another downside with the Silver Cross Linear Freeway. While the chassis is just 6.6kg, the carrycot is pretty heavy, which could be the reason why I hard trouble removing it from the chassis. Also, to pack the buggy in the boot, you need to remove the carrycot, which is a bit annoying and also means you need a car boot that’s a reasonable size. Who is the Silver Cross Linear Freeway best for? City mums and dads after a cosy cocoon that’ll grow with their baby. The Silver Cross Linear Freeway offers comfort and practicality, especially for those who don’t need to head off road. It’s not a light option and there are some niggles, but the flexibility of having your baby in a cosy pram or a rear or forward facing pushchair, the decent sized shopping basket and how lovely it feels to push, all make the Silver Cross Linear Freeway a worthwhile option.
