Servant or Butler Portable Bell Box. Very Rare Victorian Antique

Many stately Victorian homes may have had bell boxes so that the Master of the House could ring to say what room he was in and needed attending to. This is a portable version of the same thing. The master would take this on holiday with him. He would run the very long wire (which is original) from his stately room to the not so grand room his servant was staying in. Whenever the Master needed attention he would simply push the button and the bell would ring this notifying the servant. This is in wonderful condition for its age and was powered by a largish battery. I don't know if it still actually works as I have not tested it - only had it on display in our Victorian house. As the unit is very clean however I've no reason to doubt that it could still work but please don't hold me to that! We are moving to a modern house over the next year so I am sadly selling off a lot of the Victorian items that I have collected over the years.
