The unique feature of this lamp is the pivot point. Typically, a loose cord is used in these pivoting lights, which causes friction and hence frequent breakage at the pivot points. The French engineer invented a safe, reliable and patented alternative in . Copper plates are placed between the pivot point, which conduct the current. Because of this, no cord damage can occur.
