Westerdijk around .Originally such figures were placed on top of baskets filled with human remains by way of a guardian. This classic double â headed Mbulu Ngulu reliquary figure must have been in use around . One face is concave, the other convex in the forehead but concave in the lower section of the face. The âshoulders âof the piece both end in sharp points, the lower part of the lozenge showing a nice patina from much handling. Traditional covering of the wood with plates of copper and brass with embossed designs.
