Incredible handmade Persian carpet: Antique Koliyai 190 x
Click here to view this lot Welcome to Passion d'Orient:The Koliay/Koliai are semi-nomadic ethnic Kurds; they live in a rural area between the centres of Songor, Asadabad and Kirmanshah, where you can find their rugs. These are heavy and robustly manufactured objects with relatively high cut velvet. Their wool is of good quality and has a lovely shine. The field is divided into diamond shapes by a continuous lattice comprising lines and tiny rosettes. Sometimes the decoration features spandrels, in other cases it extends freely over the whole field. The central medallion is also an element that is sometimes included in the pattern. Another characteristic of this design is found in the colour used for the background, always a camel-hair brown, while red is often used for the edges.Manufacture: Knotted by hand. Size:190 x 125 cm.
