Remarkable handmade Persian carpet: Antique Koliyai - IRAN
Welcome to Passion d'Orient:The Koliay/Koliai are semi-nomads from the Kurd ethnic group, and live in a rural area between the centres of Songor, Asadabad and Kirmanshah, where their carpets can be found. These are quite heavy and robust manufactured items with a relatively high-cut pile. Their wool is of good quality and features a satisfying shine. The field is divided into diamond shapes by a continuous grid consisting of stems and tiny rosettes. Sometimes, the decoration features spandrels, and in other cases, it extends freely over the whole field. The centre medallion is also an element that is sometimes inserted into this pattern. Another characteristic of this design is found in the colour used for the background, always a camel-hair brown, while red is often used for the edges.Manufacture: Hand-knotted. Size:240 x 136 cm.
