Exceptionally beautiful polychrome coloured wooden sculpture depicting an angel with her hands folded devoutly and eyes closed in kneeling position. Very finely depicted, with beautiful details such as her dressflowing in the wind. Supposedly made in France around . The condition is good considering the age with naturally some age traces and crackle, that only give the sculpture more character. The wings of the angel were for the most part lost in the past. The polychromy is partly updated at a later date.Dimensions: 27 cm high x 16 x 11 cm. Ancient chestnut wood polychrome sculpture. 19th-century Spanish school sculpture, admirably crafted by an unknown sculptor. Depicting Saint Mary the Virgin standing over a crescent moon. The Virgin wears a long dress covering her from shoulders down to feet, with flaps and scrolls in the upper red drapery, with a central decoration engraved, wide sleeves, a blue floor-length veil over her head and joined hands. The stiffness of the body posture makes it look like a popular craftwork.
