It is relatively small and lightweight, and would fit into a smallish space (for example, the corner of a sitting room or study, or entrance hall). The desk is inlaid with lighter woods, probably satinwood and boxwood. It has cabriole legs and drop handles. The writing surface folds down and is supported by two retractable arms. Vintage oak Bureau / writing desk with drop down leaf, This lovely elegant design desk is in very good condition.I have no idea of the age of this but assume it dates from at least the s / s as it has been in the family for as long as I can remember. But please make up your own mind about the age based on the photos and more experience than I have! We are selling this only as part of necessary down-sizing.It has been a treasured piece of family furniture and has been well looked after and regularly cleaned with furniture polish. As far as I can tell the wood is oak / oak veneer, but the back panel is just regular stained plywood.The exterior is largely unmarked - see photos. The lid is very slightly warped in that the top left corner doesn't sit as tight against the frame as the rest - see photo 3. The interior of the desk top has signs of use as would be expected (see photos), but the exterior is in very good clean, undamaged condition. The hinges and stays are in good working order. There are two original keys for the brass lock in the lid which also works perfectly.The drawers pull in and out smoothly. The handles show some signs of wear to the "brass" finish.The desk stands 95cm high x 42cm deep x 59cm wide. The writing flap measures 55cm wide x 28cm deep and is 69cm off the floor. £, Bristol,.

The desk has 2 pedestals the right hand one has 3 drawers, the left hand one has 2 drawers (one being a file draw), the main body has 3 drawers across the front, with locks & a key is supplied. As you can see the desk has wonderful graining to the body & drawer fronts etc, it is strong construction. With classic swan neck handles fitted to the drawers. The writing surface is topped with a lovely classic green leather inlay with a gilt tooled pattern running around the edge with no rips or tears, it is marked & has slight wear which I believe gives it character & adds to the style. With a great antique style to it in Regency /Georgian manner, it has no wobbles with just wear commensurate with age as it develops its antique character. Measurements, width 48”, height 30”, & depth 24” The chair is a traditional captain’s chair which swivels, tilts & is in full working order, it has a metal core with castors. The chair is in good condition with some real character. Measurements, 33” high (19” high to seat) when raised at mid point, 20” seat width between the arms, 17 seat depth. As you can see both items complement each other, a complete office set in an outstanding condition. These items have been restored, I have treated them both to a sympathetic clean, the wood has been polished with an antique grade Colron beeswax, the leather has been treated with Elephant wax.
