This sprawling Victorian grade II listed building in Liverpool is derelict but in the past has been used as an Orphanage, a Psychiatric Hospital and Old Person's Nursing Home throughout its 138 year history. Boarded up and surrounded by perimeter fencing, Haunted Happenings have sq ft of terrifying corridors and rooms to explore as we enter this building in search of the ghostly inhabitants that still reside here. The areas themselves are so vast that we select the most active for our overnight ghost hunts. The institution was opened in as an Orphanage for the education and support of the orphans of British seamen and by there were 321 children housed here under the harsh supervision of a number of Matrons. Conditions were harsh and cruel, siblings were segregated and "they weren't fussy how they punished you" described one former resident. The First World War brought more residents to the Orphanage and by almost one thousand orphans were being housed here. The Orphanage eventually closed in and became Newsham Park hospital which remained in operation until when it closed down completely, beginning the demise of this spooky building which is now used for many paranormal investigations by Haunted Happenings. The abandoned Hospital has a massive array of spooky rooms, corridors and basements, including a School House, hospital wards, nurses accommodation, Bell Tower, Chapel and Mortuary. There is an instant feeling of uneasiness as you enter and begin your journey into this frightening location. On a Haunted Happenings overnight ghost hunt at Newsham Hospital You will not fail to sense the torment of those who belong to its long and torrid history. Wheelchairs sit empty in corridors and the mortuary fridges exist as a cold reminder of the lives that passed over in this place, giving this location a unique and frightening atmosphere. Strange things began to occur and on the day that they moved in a strange occurrence took place in the form of a dust floating around them that seemed odd to say the least. This dust settled and in their efforts to clear it up, Mrs Kelly, the children’s aunt, went into the kitchen to get some cleaning implements only to discover a mysterious pool of water that had appeared on the kitchen floor. The pools of water then appeared all over the kitchen whilst they looked on in shock. This was just the beginning and nobody could ever have predicted how much they would endure over the next several years. A foam which was green in colour would come out of taps and toilets even though the water had been turned off, lights going on and off repeatedly with no apparent fault. Cupboards shaking violently and objects being slashed. Pictures were shredded and plants mysteriously leapt out of their plant pot on many occasions. Furniture moved on its own even heavy sideboards. The family had become terrified yet refused to leave their wonderful home. They became so used to the activity that they named the activist as Fred the Poltergeist. Many attempts were made to help the family gain some peace. Exorcisms were rebuffed as Fred mocked at them and people were attacked physically when he became angry. The walls leaked fluid on many occasions when attempts at splashing holy water were used. Fred became violent at times and lifted up objects, moving them in mid-air.
