She is forcibly sent to St. Saviours Mother and Baby home by her mother who is intent on keeping up appearances. Along with the other girls in the home, Dolores, Queenie and Norma, Mary has to cope with the shame and with the dawning realisation that she will have to give her baby up for adoption, whether she likes it or not.Despite this, the girls form a strong bond and their youthful effervescence breaks through, as they sing along to the girl-groups of the period. The play has warmth and humour throughout, it tells a simple story in an uncomplicated yet sophisticated way and has something to say without being the least bit preachy. Above all, the play has a huge heart - and a killer soundtrack.
