I have inherited this, so please bear with me, but from what I can find, this is a reasonably rare 'Marconiphone' reel to reel recorder. What you see is what you get - there are two wires coming out of the back, one of which is the plug. There is no microphone, instructions or reels. Fostex R8 Analogue Reel to Reel 8 Track Recorder

In terms of semi-pro equipment, the R8 is perhaps the most advanced 8-Track ever made. It's also one of the easiest to use and best sounding. This was the last 8-Track Fostex made before switching to digital in the late 's, and is packed with the kind of features usually reserved for professional machines. First among these is the ability to sync it with your DAW, and have the sound of analogue tape with the convenience of digital recording. I've had half a dozen of them over the years, and always regretted letting them go. The heads are in very good nick too (see photos). I've cleaned them and demagnetised them. Transport is all working fine. I recorded a 1khz test tone at -10dbv to all 8 tracks, records accurately on all tracks, and more importantly replays them all at the same level.
