This is an extraordinarily beautiful print in the rare first edition of three, before adding the sky and the number - more beautiful than those in the Rijksprentenkabinet!. The sheet is in very good condition. Dirck Stoop (Utrecht, ca. ) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman and etcher of the golden age. He created, among other things, portraits and cityscapes, but above all landscapes, often with horsemen and hunting scenes, and images of fights and battles. Dirck was a son of the glass painter Willem Jansz. Stoop, which presumably also was his teacher. He was a brother of the painter Maerten Stoop. Arnold Houbraken called him ‘Den braven Paardeschilder Dirck Stoop’ in the ‘De Groote Schouburgh der Nederlantsche Konstschilders en Schilderessen’ ().Dirck Stoop repeatedly stayed abroad. In the period he supposidly was in Italy after which he returned to Utrecht. In he found himself at the Court in Portugal. In he worked in England. He painted an equestrian parade through London of Karel II in and a portrait of his wife. In the period , he resided in Hamburg, after which he again returned to Utrecht. Read more
