Manuscript on parchment:Matrimonial dispensation granted by
Paul V, Apostolic brief - . Handwritten parchment, cm 44 x 32 ca, in very good condition, clear and easy to read, with only two abrasions (probably done on purpose) and some holes with a slight lowering of the ink on the foldline. On the back is only a trace of the Papal wax seal. It's a “papal brief ", a less formal bull which came into use since the 15th century, authenticated with a wax seal and not a lead one.The text could cover any subject, in this case it is a matrimonial dispensation granted by the Pope to a pair consisting of blood relatives. The Papal blessing allows the couple to escape the scandal that their condition would stir up.The two abrasions coincide with the city name of the couple and so it is possible that they were done on purpose to maintain secrecy about their identity, especially as throughout the text their surname is never mentioned. It ends with "datum Tusculisub anulo piscatorio Die VIIOctobris MDCXV Pont.us Nostri anno duodecimo" Read More
