Large and finely carved oak angel sculpture -Flanders - 17th
Beautiful oak sculpture of an angel. Finely carved and nicely crafted with a pretty face, long hair and a detailed carved robe/dress. The back has been hollowed out, this was done to prevent cracks in the wood.It dates back to the 17th century and the origin is Belgium/Flanders.Nice soft patina on the wood. Part from a church interior. The sculpture is 78.5 cm high. It is mounted on a round oak pedestal with nice details. This is originally not part of the sculpture and so is a later addition. The total height of the sculpture including the pedestal is 106 cm. The sculpture is mounted loose on the pedestal with a heavy iron pen with screw thread. The carving can easily be unscrewed and detached from the pedestal and suspended, if one so wishes. In the course of time, the sculpture has suffered some damage and flaws. It is missing a hand and an arm.See the pictures, which are part of the description. The sculpture will be sent word in two separate packages. The sculpture itself and the pedestal will be sent in separate packages. This due to the size and weight.
