Welcome to Passion d'Orient: Among the many flat woven Kilim carpets made in the Caucasian region, the Soumakh ones are certainly the most renowned, as this name is used to indicate all the Kilims made using the 'wound threads' technique.The feature of these fabrics is precisely the type of manufacture known as 'wound threads' which consists in passing additional threads through the basic structure, used to create the decorative drawings. In some respects, Soumakh carpets can be situated in between Kilims and usual carpets. In fact, although flat woven, they are often decorated with the typical motifs of Caucasian carpets such as Akstafa or Fachralu.
