A H.M.S Norfolk ships crest plaque mounted on a wooden shield measuring 5 inches high by 4 inches wide. This H.M.S Norfolk plaque is for the 6th Royal Navy ship to be called Norfolk & launched in was a type 23 frigate. In the ship was sold to the Chilean Navy & renamed Almirante Cochrane. This plaque is one of a number that comprise the collection of my late father who started before the war as a boy at HMS Ganges and finished after 35 years as a CPO at HMS Seahawk. This plaque for HMS Norfolk is particularly poignant as he was on the Norfolk when the Bismark was sighted and as a signaller was working with his opposite number on the Hood when the Hood was hit and exploded. He gave evidence at the enquiry as to the colour of the flames. This is a heavy 7lb. ships bell with the following inscription "Metal Ex " H.M. RODNEY" dismantled. Inverkeithing . From what I know of its history it was owned by an ex- sailor of that ship for many years. It is believed to have been made in the early s by or for him. The base metal is unknown but it appears to have a brass wash applied, some of which has rubbed away. A great object which has been in the family for 30 years.
