Berber carpet - 298 x 200 cm, from the s - FASHIONABLE

Welcome to Passion d'Orient:The beginnings of the Berber carpet, its origin and the meaning of its patterns, go back centuries. They are not descended from the oriental carpets of the Islamic era, but the similarity of the knotting technique and certain patterns indicates that they have common roots, which probably go back to the Neolithic period in Asia Minor. Removed from the great civilisations of antiquity and cultural exchanges brought by the Silk Route, the Berber carpet kept its originality in the mountainous regions of the Atlas and the Atlantic plains.Manufacture: Knotted by hand.Size: 290 x 192 cm Thickness: approx. mmAge: ca. Antique AFSHAR, nomadic rug frommid-west Persia, around

Antique AFSHAR, nomadic rug frommid-west Persia, around

This pattern is characteristic of the Afshar nomads living near Kerman. Beautiful, used condition, worn through to the weft threads in places. Soft brick red and fresh light blue. With four corner ornaments and a central, step-shaped medallion with indigo blue. Indigo is a plant.Natural, plant-based dyes. The vases with flowers at the top and bottom are characteristic of these carpets. The dark brown coloured, wool pile is very short, almost worn out, because of the iron chloride that is naturally present in the plant-based dye. This rug is approx. 100 years old, which is why it features the characteristic short pile in the dark brown parts.A good sign for the connoisseurs. Please see photo 6.
