Antique AFSHAR, nomadic rug frommid-west Persia, around
This pattern is characteristic of the Afshar nomads living near Kerman. Beautiful, used condition, worn through to the weft threads in places. Soft brick red and fresh light blue. With four corner ornaments and a central, step-shaped medallion with indigo blue. Indigo is a plant.Natural, plant-based dyes. The vases with flowers at the top and bottom are characteristic of these carpets. The dark brown coloured, wool pile is very short, almost worn out, because of the iron chloride that is naturally present in the plant-based dye. This rug is approx. 100 years old, which is why it features the characteristic short pile in the dark brown parts.A good sign for the connoisseurs. Please see photo 6.
