Sarracenia Flava v. Flava, adult plant grown from location seed from Pender County North Carolina. Exotic, pitcher plant catches many flies. Exotic but easy to grow carnivorous plant, native to North America, catches many flies. Grow in a cool greenhouse or sunny windowsill and water with rainwater. Grow in a compost mix of three parts Irish (sphagnum) moss peat, two parts pearlite and one part silver sand. Place the plant in a position of full sunlight, either on a cool windowsill or in a greenhouse. During the spring/summer growing season stand it in a try containing approximately one inch of rainwater, never use tap water as this is poisonous to all carnivorous plants. Never apply artificial fertilizer or feed with dead insects, the plant will catch enough to feed itself. Hollyhock plants are usually grown in borders or against wall or fences because the stalk of this plant is very tall. Hollyhocks are considered a biennial, that is, they grow foliage the first year and flower, then form seeds and die the next. Plants easily self-seed to provide an endless supply of blossoms. Hollyhocks will thrive in full sun to partial shade and rich, moist soil. Prior to planting work plenty of organic matter, such as compost or aged animal manure, into the garden. This helps condition the soil, which improves drainage and increases its ability to hold water and nutrients. Water as needed during dry conditions to keep flowers blooming. Adding an organic flower fertilizer every few weeks will result in bigger, bolder blooms. When flowers fade, cut stalks to the ground. Avoid overhead watering whenever possible. Water in the morning. In the fullness of time, it could be split to make 7 plants This is a fascinating, EASY CARE plant which flourishes in the air - they have no roots and need no soil!! They usually flower in the early spring, if the conditions are right; one flower per floret (this may not be every year!). All they need is regular watering and to be protected from frost.
