Series of 9 etched prints from work, each approx. 14 x 21 cm and above the print a letter printed Dutch text in 3-6 lines, under passe-partouts. Here and there minimal defects in the margins. One print hidden under another passe-partout.Beautiful series of iconic illustrations, published only two years after the famous adventure of Willem Barentsz in . The prints show the fight against polar bears, building the Behouden Huys, expeditions with boats and a map of the North coast of "Lappia". The book by Gerrit de Veer is very rare.Gerrit de Veer was one of the officers during the second and third journey of Jacob van Heemskerk and Willem Barentsz going ‘around the north’ intending to find a shorter sea route to the East Indies. In Barentsz did succeed in rounding the northern tip of Nova Zembla, but then came to be stuck in the ice. The crew members had to spend the winter in a house they built from washed-up driftwood, known as the Behouden Huys. Gerrit de Veer kept a journal of the journey and the wintering and published it in the Netherlands later on.
