Creative Genius
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Conte, Joseph F., PUBLISHER: Xlibris Corporation, ART/MUSIC/THE HUMANITIES CREATIVE GENIUS This work endeavors to unfold the principles of art by which the taste of discerning individuals ought to be informed if not governed. My design is twofold: in the first place I want to ascertain, as other critics have done before me, what works are naturally agreeable or disagreeable; in the second place, my intention is to examine the human nature, life-experiences and psychology of those who created the works that are analyzed and interpreted herein. In the fine arts, aesthetic principles are founded on taste - not the taste of a selected few - nor, equally, that of the greater part of humanity, but something of a generally accepted level of taste between these extremes. Little should be accepted on mere authority, but all relevant aesthetic questions should be handled and discussed anew. Slavish submission to the dictates of custom is also to be eschewed. As a critic I resort to the impressionistic method not because it is based on objective standards but merely because it has in it one element of finality: my personal reaction to this particular artist or piece of art. I also like to think that my taste is fairly good, so I am likely to like many of those things that deserved to be liked. As aesthete is one who chooses the particular with discriminating taste, whereas the scientist finds himself to be without such picky tastes, but whose life view is founded on all things knowable in a context of universal laws. 'Be regular and ordinary in your life," said Flaubert, 'so that you can be violent and original in your work." With the help of ordinary methods of reasoning, I have succeeded in laying down certain general principles, andestablishing a theory of creativity. Creative geniuses are the true benefactors of humanity. The natural but exceedingly rare flowering of divinity in man on Earth is an ever-present possibility devoutly to be wished. History's geniuses are most highly evolved than the rest of us. They offer man's best hope for an improved quality of life for us all. Buy Now
