EDWARD VII'S SOLID GOLD & GEM SET CIGARETTES CASE , Made of 9ct solid gold,and rectangular in form,with a curved profile,hinged convex lid,and convex reverse.The lid is decorated with chased technique to depict scrolling foliage,and is set with 80 gemstones, comprising 59 rose cut diamonds,7 x sapphires,6 x emeralds,& 8 x rubies.The push button clasp is also set with a large oval cabochon sapphire.The reverse side is very finely engraved with the British Royal Coat of Arms,incorporating the Sovereigns Crown.Although assayed in ,and baring French assay marks,this cigarettes case is presumed to have been the property of King Edward VII,the Art Nouveau style chased decoration,gem stone settings and Armorial bearings,being added circa .Clearly marked to each side with French assay marks,and English assay marks;Leopards head town mark for London.Date letter 'a' for .Makers mark FE for Frederick Edmonds.The right hand bottom edge is marked with the retailers name & address;'PERCY EDWARDS & CO.
