I have had this valued and the valuer dated the fireplace mid/late 19th century however, I have been contacted by so called "keyboard experts" who tell me this is a replica. In either case an original sells for £ and the nearest replica I have found close to this design is £. So it makes little difference to me its still a fantastic selling price. If its origin is of importance to you please feel welcome to come and view it and/or bring a valuer with you. Please note this fireplace is very heavy - it took 4 men to unload it and they struggled. I have a Victorian style marble mantlepiece with a beautiful cast iron fireplace. Bad news - the marble fireplace is broken in parts but can be mended. I think all the pieces are there but I keep finding new bits of it every day. Bad news - the Victorian fireplace has got some superficial rust on it so needs a good scrub and a tin of black plate and will be as good as before. The marble surround features a traditional design from the period, with attractive decorative corbels supporting a bevelled mantelpiece shelf. I have included a picture of what the mantlepiece and fireplace would have looked like originally and could look like again with a bit of tlc.
